Akira Tozawa Enters Tenka-Ichi Jr. Tournament 2009!

November 7th, 2009

The final addition to ZERO's Tenka-Ichi Jr. Tournament 2009 is DRAGON GATE's Akira Tozawa. Yesterday at DRAGON GATE's event in Tokyo's Korakuen Hall they announced a "generational" 6-man tag match between longtime DG members and newer members. Originally a 5 vs. 5 match, Akira Tozawa requested entry so Masaaki Mochizuki brought out regular ZERO1 wrestler Takuya Sugawara for the veterans side to make it 6 vs. 6. That match will happen on December 3rd for DG in Korakuen Hall.

Mochizuki also announced that Gikyoudai, Sugawara and Minoru Fujita, would be appearing on his 11/28 "Buyuden" event at Shin-Kiba 1st Ring. Following the show Tozawa immediately contacted the ZERO1 office and formally introduced himself as the final participant in the Tenka-Ichi Tournament. ZERO1 accepted this request, scheduling him a 1st Round match on 11/19 versus...Takuya Sugawara!

Hajime Ohara Joins Tenka-Ichi Jr. Tournament!

October 31st, 2009

There's a new addition to the upcoming Tenka-Ichi Jr. Tournament 2009 - Japanese luchadore Hajime Ohara. Ohara began his career in 2004 in Mexico as part of Toryumon as a student of the legendary Ultimo Dragon and was a regular in CMLL. He often made trips back-and-forth between Mexico and Japan for Toryumon, and returned full time to Japan in 2008 to wrestle for HUSTLE.

Ohara is also a former NWA World Welterweight Championship, a belt once held twice by ZERO1 President Shinjiro Otani (1996 & 1997). Ohara also held this title twice, once losing it and then regaining it versus Osaka Pro's Super Delfin in early 2007. In his time back in Japan Ohara also won the NWA International Junior Heavyweight Championship in 2008, eventually losing it the 1st of this month to Mineo Fujita.

Ohara released a short statement to the media as well, saying that he feels the Japanese fans have yet to truly meet him and see what he can do. He added that he hopes to put on a strong performance in the "Tenka Ichi Jr. Tournament 2009."
