ZERO1 Wins NWA Intercontinental Tag Titles back! Jr. Heavyweight Title Lost to WPF!

March 15th, 2009

The WPF had seen great momentum this tour, leading to todays show in Korakuen Hall. ZERO1 has held two back-to-back shows during the week at Tokyo's Shin-Kiba, seeing the WPF go 3-1 in confrontation matches between the two companies. Throughout their victories the WPF commonly used interference and cheating tactics to survive, even pulling off a non-title defeat of World Heavyweight champion Shinjiro Otani on March 10th.

Today's show saw Otani versus new WPF addition Orlando Colón in the main event for the World Heavyweight title belt. Again the WPF tried to interfere in the match via Steve Corino and Mr. Wrestling 3 who were present at ringside. Despite this interference, Otani was able to overcome the odds once more and with the Hashimoto kesagiri chop, a dragon suplex and then his Spiral Bomb for the win. This was President Otani's 2nd defense of his title after winning it from New Japan's Yuji Nagata, and then immediately defending it versus WPF's Steve Corino on the same show!

Ever since he returned to Japan and ZERO1 after a many year absence, Sonjay Dutt swore he would defeat Ikuto Hidaka for the ZERO1 International Jr. Heavyweight title. On November 17th, 2005 during his last tour of ZERO1, Sonjay lost to Hidaka in a challenge for the same Jr. Heavyweight title. This time it was Sonjay who was victorious after 18+ minutes of action when he finally pinned the champion with the Hindu Press. This makes Sonjay Dutt the 16th Generation ZERO1 Jr. Heavyweight title champion, and puts the WPF in charge of that title.

The WPF needed the victory, as their attempt to hold onto the NWA Intercontinental Tag Team titles faltered in the 5th match of the show. Former Champion Mr. Wrestling 3 teamed alongside another former champion in Steve Corino to take on the ZERO1 tag team of Ryoji Sai and Osamu Namiguchi. Nami has a special score to settle with the WPF since Corino, Sonjay and Colón had gone to the young boys dorm and threw them out in the street! Nami was fired up for this match, and brought a strong fight to the WPF wrestlers.

Corino however kept him check, instigating the crowd who where strongly behind the ZERO1 athletes. And after many years toiling in the company, Nami finally grasped a huge victory when he used his "Dream Catch" springboard roll-up to pin Corino for the victory! Following the match, Nami was overcome with emotion, clutching his trophy and crying. This makes Ryouji and Nami the 23rd NWA Intercontinental Tag Team champions.

The 4th Match of the show was titled "Tanaka vs. Gikyoudai" with Masato Tanaka teaming with former New Japan Pro Wrestler Minoru (Tanaka) versus Minoru Fujita and Takuya Sugawara. Previous to the match Fujita proposed that the match be a hardcore match. And while the veteran tag team did their best to confound the "Tanaka" team, they were unable to bring in the victory with Sugawara being felled by Tanaka's Sliding-D.

Also on the show, former Yomuiri Giant pitcher Shinobu Takano made his Tokyo pro wrestling debut by defeating a WPF agent chosen specially for him. He won again with a Doushime Sleeper in just under 4 minutes. Kohei Sato teamed with the XPF's Yusaku Obata to defeat ZERO1 young boys Shito Ueda and Yuzuru Saito. The first match was a Chick Fight Sun bout putting Saki Maemura in singles action versus joshi pro wrestling veteran Toshie Uematsu.

WPF Kicks ZERO1 Young Boys Out of Their Dormitory!

March 13th, 2009

Ever since former FIRST ON STAGE representative Yoshiyuki Nakamura signed over his controlling interest in ZERO1 to the WPF, that company has continually made overtures to turn all things ZERO1 into WPF. Today the first strike was made, as WPF agents Steve Corino, Orlando Colón and Sonjay Dutt raided the ZERO1 young boys dormitory and threw them out in the street!

As they removed Osamu Namiguchi, Shito Ueda and Yuzuru Saito from the dorm, Nami began to call out to yet-to-debut young boy Yoshikazu Yokoyama who was in the shower and unware of what was happening! The WPF wrestlers then dragged Yokoyama from the shower, tied him naked to a chair, wrote on him with a indelible marker, and shaved his head before throwing him in the street along with the others! As the ZERO1 young boys stood helpless outside, the WPF wrestlers continued to insult them from the balcony of the room.

The entire incident can be seen in the below videos:

WPF Sweeps On Day 2 in Shin-Kiba!

March 11th, 2009

The WPF ran roughshod over their ZERO1 opponents at "ZERO1 Wrestler's - Day 1 Conflict" in Tokyo's Shin-kiba 1st Ring today. The soon-to be title challengers won both "ZERO1 vs. WPF" matches on the fight card.

The main event was World Heavyweight Champ Otani and Jr. Heavyweight Champ Ikuto Hidaka versus their opponents on the 15th in title matches, Orlando Colón and Sonjay Dutt. The WPF agents attacked before the bell, with Colón throwing Otani to the outside of the ring and Sonjay blowing a mouthful of water in Hidaka's face. Hidaka and Sonjay soon fought to a draw in the middle of the ring, tagging in Otani and Colón. The young Puerto Rican fighter used his shoulder to push Otani into the corner here he got in a few cheap shots before tagging out. Otani scored a German suplex against the returning Sonjay and tagged in Hidaka once more.

Hidaka came in with a missile dropkick, and scored a Tornado DDT on Sonjay while delivering a another kick to Colón who was trying to interfere. Sonjay fought back with a DDT and a Camel Clutch which Otani then broke up. Sonjay then tried to go for the early finish with a Phoenix Splash but missed, giving Hidaka a chance to tag Otani in one more. Sonjay once more brought in Colón who was felled by a leg lariat from Otani put in the corner and given his baptism in ZERO1 with an Otani facewash! Colón was able to use his strength to battle back with a brainbuster and a hard lariat but only for a 2 count. Colón once more tagged in Sonjay who delivered a low altitude dropkick and a moonsault press on Otani but again on scored a 2 count.

Otani was able to gain some space with a kick and tag back in Hidaka who hit a quick Misty Flip but when he went for another Tornado DDT Sonjay reversed and both he and Colón attacked and isolated Hidaka in the ring. They hit him with a neckbreaker, a jawbreaker and an RKO, yet Otani was able to break up their pinfall attempt. However just as the ZERO1 fighters appeared to have victory in their grasp the WPF wrestlers launched into a coordinated attack that saw Sonjay hit another Moonsault on Hidaka and then Colón hit him with his "Orlando's Magic" move and scored win for the WPF.

The Semi-main event of the show was another ZERO1 versus WPF tag match, this time with Steve Corino and Mr. Wrestling 3 versus Masato Tanaka and Osamu Namiguchi. Corino and Mr. Wrestling 3 will be facing off against Nami and Ryoji Sai on March 15th for the now vacant NWA Intercontinental Tag Team titles. As the match started the WPF heavyweights focused on the Jr. class fighter Namiguchi. Pretty soon they were all brawling through the crowd as Shin-Kiba with Corino attacking Nami and Mr. Wrestling 3 fighting Tanaka. Back in the ring Corino his Nami with his Jumbo Tsuruta-esque jumping knee, shouting "Corin-OH!" to the boos of the ZERO1 fans.

Tanaka entered the ring several times to break up pinfalls on the beaten down Namiguchi, as the WPF continued to focus on him. Finally Corino was able to score a schoolboy on Nami for the pinfall with a Super Kick assist from Mr. Wrestling 3. This became Nami's second defeat versus the WPF. Will his momentum be stifled heading into the NWA Intercontinental Tag Team title?

Also on the show, Ryoji Sai teamed with Yuzuru Saito to defeat Kohei Sato and Shito Ueda, when Ryouji pinned his former tag team partners Kohei after his Nachi Waterfalls diving footstomp. Minoru Fujita faced Yusaku Obata in a singles match and won in under 12 minutes. And in the opening match Saki Maemura defeated her good friend Ayumi Kurihara with the Never Give Up! in just over 10 minutes.

Once more the WPF fighters gathered outside Shin-Kiba 1st Ring to brag about their victory as seen below:

World Heavyweight Champion Otani Falls at Shin-Kiba Day 1!

March 10th, 2009

ZERO1 held its first of two shows at Tokyo's Shin-Kiba 1st Ring leading to Korakuen Hall on March 15th for the "ZERO1 WRESTLER'S 1" event. The first show at Shin-Kiba, "ZERO1 Wrestler's - Day 1 Conflict," had two scheduled matches pitting ZERO1 wrestlers versus WPF agents. The first of these matches saw current World Heavyweight Champion Shinjiro Otani face Mr. Wrestling 3 in a non-title bout.

Present in the hall to watch the match was new WPF representatives Yoshiyuki Nakamura, Steve Corino and recently arrived Orlando Colón. It wasn't long however until the WPF agents began to interject themselves in the match, first attacking Otani as he and Mr. Wrestling 3 battled outside the ring. The crowd in attendance booed this infringement and got behind Otani by chanting his name!

Every time Otani rallied to the offense, Corino was there to interfere by grabbing Otani from outside the ring or outright attacking him in the ring. Otani still managed to come back and fight off Corino and Mr. Wrestling 3, but lost track of Colón who snuck up and scored a modified neckbreaker on Otani while the referee was distracted by the WPF's antics. Mr. Wrestling 3 then scored the pinfall with a jacknife hold! Otani was shocked at the outcome, knowing he has an upcoming singles defense versus Colón on 3/15 and needs all the momentum he can get.

The second WPF match saw the return of Sonjay Dutt after more than 3 years away from ZERO1. Sonjay will be facing Hidaka in a ZERO1 International Jr. Heavyweight challenge match on the 3/15 show and had promised victories in all his matches this tour. Here his challenger was young Jr. Osamu Namiguchi. Nami showed some progress early in the match using chops and elbow shots, a face crusher and then his diving headbutt from the corner but only for a 2 count! Victory in the match would remain elusive however as Sonjay would score a kick, a spinning DDT and then finally scoring the pinfall with a 450 Splash. Seemingly not satisfied with his victory, Sonjay continued to stomp and attack Nami after the bell had rung! Finally Sonjay's opponent for 3/15, Ikuto Hidaka, ran in to protect the defenseless Namiguchi. Sonjay left the ring and pointed at Hidaka's title belt, declaring to the fans that he is the #1 Junior Heavyweight in the entire world.

Corino, Colón and Mr. Wrestling 3 celebrated following Otani's defeat as can be seen in the video below:

Sonjay Arrives in Tokyo Ready to Support WPF!

March 9th, 2009

American Jr. Class wrestler Sonjay Dutt arrived back in Japan for the first time in several years. Sonjay had been a regular in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) from 2004 to 2009, but left the company earlier this year. Once settled in his hotel by the WPF Sonjay was driven to the ZERO1/WPF offices to speak to the media:

"I had heard this was the WPF offices now! Is it still the ZERO1 office? Three matches are on the schedule and I'm looking for three perfect victories! The third match will see me brining back Hidaka's jewelry (champion belt) to the WPF Headquarters. I've resigned from TNA, and I'm in the best condition of my career. If I win the International Jr. Heavyweight title and become the champion, get me a desk for this office...because I might be in Japan for a long time! So tell Hidaka there's no escape!"

Sonjay last fought for the ZERO1 International Jr. Heavyweight Title on November 17th, 2005 in Osaka. That day his opponent was the current champion, Ikuto Hidaka, during his first reign with the Jr. title. Sonjay would lose that match in just under 14 minutes, and now looks to get his revenge 3+ years later with Hidaka in his third reign as ZERO1 Jr. Champion.
